The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Campaign Council has rejected the outcome of the March 18 governorship and house of assembly elections held in Katsina State, Nigeria. In a press conference held on Monday at the party’s campaign office, the Director-General of the Campaign Council, Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa, stated that they will take all legal measures to address the injustices faced by the PDP candidate during the elections.

Inuwa alleged that the elections were marred by voter intimidation, in conjunction with some security agents and personnel of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He also accused the state government of directing workers, traditional and religious leaders to ensure the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) or face consequences.

Inuwa further lamented that the manner in which the elections were conducted in the state had set democracy back by 40 years. However, he affirmed that the PDP would not be deterred from pursuing justice and ensuring a healthy democratic process is established in the state.

The APC was declared the winner of the governorship poll by INEC on Sunday, with the party also winning 32 out of 34 seats in the state house of assembly. Despite this outcome, the PDP remains determined to pursue legal action to retrieve what they see as their mandate.
