Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has made a significant appointment in the state administration by naming Professor Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG)-designate. The governor personally signed the appointment letter, recognizing Adeyemo’s distinguished credentials and vast experience.

Professor Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo has an impressive academic background, serving as a prominent figure in the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine at the prestigious University of Ibadan (UI). Her journey in academia began at UI, where she obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) degree in 1994, followed by a Master’s degree in Veterinary Public Health (MVPH) in 1998, and a Ph.D. in Veterinary Public Health in 2005.

Over the years, Adeyemo has held various significant positions at the University of Ibadan, showcasing her dedication and expertise in the field. Starting as a Lecturer Grade II in March 1999, she climbed the academic ranks, becoming a full Professor in October 2011. Her achievements and contributions to research and education were recognized when she served as the Pioneer Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation, and Strategic Partnerships) of the university between 2017 and 2021.

Beyond her work at the university, Professor Adeyemo played a crucial role in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in Oyo State. She led the Oyo State COVID-19 Decontamination and Containment team as part of the state’s task force, demonstrating her commitment to public health and safety.

Adeyemo’s reputation in the international scientific community is stellar. She holds the title of a COMSTECH distinguished scholar and is a Fellow of prestigious academies such as the International Science Council (ISC), The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), the Society for Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Mitigation, the Nigerian Academy of Science, the African Academy of Sciences, and the African Scientific Institute (ASI), U.S.

Furthermore, she is an esteemed member of several learned societies, including the Society of Toxicology (SOT), the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), the Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON), the World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association (WAVMA), and the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSDW).

Professor Adeyemo’s expertise lies in the realm of “One Health” trans-disciplinary research. Her work focuses on creating innovative solutions at the interface of the environment, livestock, wildlife, and human health, with significant policy implications not only for Nigeria but also for the entire African continent and the rest of the world.

Born on July 17, 1970, Professor Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo’s appointment as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG)-designate marks a new chapter in her illustrious career.
