The suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele has arrived at the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos for his Trial.

Emefiele Arrives Lagos Court For Trial
Emefiele, arrived at the court at 9:18 am on Tuesday to face trial on a two-count charge of possessing a single-barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a license. The case is scheduled to be heard before Nicholas Oweibo, the presiding judge.

Recalled President Bola Tinubu suspended Emefiele on June 9, instructing him to transfer his responsibilities to Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, the deputy governor, and operations directorate during the investigation. The following day, the Department of State Services (DSS) announced that Emefiele was in their custody for “investigative reasons.”

In response to his detention, Emefiele’s lawyer, Joseph Daudu, filed a suit against the DSS and the attorney-general of the federation (AGF), seeking the enforcement of his fundamental human rights.

On July 13, a federal capital territory high court ordered the DSS to formally charge Emefiele in court if they had any criminal allegations against him. The presiding judge, Hamza Muazu, further emphasized that if Emefiele was not brought before a competent court within a week, he should be released on bail.

The trial has garnered significant attention from the media and the public, as the allegations against the former CBN governor could have far-reaching implications. Emefiele’s supporters and well-wishers were seen gathered outside the Federal High Court premises, expressing their solidarity as he entered the building.

As the court proceedings begin, the nation will be keenly watching to see how the case unfolds and what implications it may have on the Nigerian financial landscape. Talkglitz. media will continue to provide updates on the trial as more information becomes available.
