The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Ayedatiwa, vehemently denied allegations of domestic violence raised by the Society for Women Empowerment (SWE) against him. The civil society group had accused Ayedatiwa of assaulting his wife, Oluwaseun, on two separate occasions within the last four months.
In a statement released to the press in Akure, the National Coordinator of SWE, Mrs. Damilola Charles, alleged that the deputy governor had repeatedly subjected his wife to physical abuse in the presence of his staff and friends. She emphasized that the campaign against violence against women should extend to elected officials.
In response, Ayedatiwa’s Chief Press Secretary, Kenneth Odusola-Stevenson, issued a statement labeling the group as faceless and their allegations baseless. The deputy governor expressed concern that such accusations could potentially create unnecessary tension in the state.
According to the statement, “The allegation of domestic abuse against the person of the deputy governor is a figment of the imagination of those behind it and their ungodly intentions to cause a crisis in the state had been known for weeks. Therefore, such falsehood does not come as a surprise.”
The statement further clarified that there had never been any instances of domestic violence between Ayedatiwa and his wife since their marriage. It highlighted that Mrs. Oluwaseun Ayedatiwa currently resides outside the country, having lived and worked in the United Kingdom for many years prior to her husband’s political career. The deputy governor emphasized that she frequently traveled between the UK and Nigeria to care for their home and children.
Ayedatiwa’s statement cautioned against spreading false information and warned of consequences for those involved. He urged the people of Ondo State to disregard such allegations, considering them as attempts by his adversaries to undermine his position.
Regarding the timeline mentioned in the allegations, Ayedatiwa’s statement pointed out that he had been actively engaged in his official duties as the deputy governor for the past four months. During this period, he had fulfilled the responsibilities of the governor’s office while his boss, Governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, was on leave. The statement described the accusations as baseless political blackmail.
In conclusion, the deputy governor urged the citizens of Ondo State to dismiss the false reports and remain vigilant against potential further attacks intended to advance hidden agendas.
