Ogun State PDP Governorship Candidate Raises Alarm Over Alleged Death Threats
Adebutu

e gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu, has expressed fear for his life as he pursues his case at the election petition tribunal. Adebutu raised the alarm while addressing a Conference of Political Parties in Abeokuta, stating that he had received a warning to mind himself wherever he goes.

Adebutu explained that he had intelligence that he should avoid crowded areas from now on, as he fears he might be killed one day. In a phone conversation with a correspondent, an aide to Adebutu confirmed the alleged death threat.

Adebutu emphasized that the mandate belongs to the PDP and the people, and he is confident that it will be reclaimed even if he dies. He condemned the alleged attacks on PDP members in the state, particularly in the Remo axis, and urged security agencies to stop turning a blind eye to the attacks on his supporters.

Adebutu appealed to the people of Ogun not to allow anyone to make them prisoners in their own towns and villages. He called on the people to resist any form of abuse to their rights and not become prisoners in Nigeria. He expressed confidence that the PDP would win at the tribunal, as they have approached it to seek redress.

It will be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the March 18 gubernatorial election with a total of 276,298 votes, beating Adebutu, who polled 262,383 votes. However, the PDP claimed that INEC made the declaration because it failed to take into account the number of canceled votes, which the PDP claims are more than 40,000.

A few days after the election, Adebutu led his supporters in a peaceful protest to the INEC office in Abeokuta, requesting the commission to review the process.
