A 22-year-old Point of Sale (POS) operator, Salawudeen Ayomide, has been sentenced to three months imprisonment by an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State for stealing N120,000 belonging to her employer. The police charged Ayomide with theft following her guilty plea. Ayomide’s address was not provided in the report.
During the hearing, the prosecution, Inspector E.O. Adaraloye, revealed that Ayomide committed the offense on February 8th around 8 a.m. in the Ogba Ayo, Ijoko area of Ota. The stolen amount of N120,000 belonged to her employer, Nosiru Jayeola.
In her ruling, Mrs. A. O. Adeyemi gave Ayomide the option of paying a fine of N3,000 or serving three months imprisonment. Additionally, Ayomide was ordered to repay N120,000 to the complainant, Nosiru Jayeola.
The prosecution stated that Ayomide’s actions contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Vol.1, Laws of Ogun, 2006. This section deals with theft and prescribes a punishment of imprisonment for a term of seven years.
It is important to note that stealing from an employer is a serious offense, and perpetrators face legal consequences. This case serves as a reminder to all employees to maintain honesty and integrity in their workplaces.
