Damilola Ogunsin’s Unyielding Pursuit of Acting Dreams

Nollywood actor, Damilola Ogunsin, has courageously revealed that he once faced discrimination in the film industry due to his albinism. In an exclusive interview with Hip TV, the talented thespian shared some of the major challenges he encountered during his journey in the movie industry.

Ogunsin’s passion for acting has been deeply rooted since his early years, spanning from primary school to his involvement in church and various theatrical groups. However, as he ventured into Nollywood, he encountered a discouraging incident involving a prominent director, whose name he chose not to disclose. The director condescendingly questioned his aspirations, stating, “Why do you want to be an actor? How many albinos do you find as actors? It’s not a place for you to be.”

Undeterred by the director’s prejudiced remarks, Ogunsin emphasized that his love for theatre was unwavering. Refusing to let his “beautiful skin” become a barrier to his dreams, he made the bold decision to resign from his banking job and fully dedicate himself to pursuing a career in Nollywood.

Reflecting on his journey, Ogunsin revealed that he has been actively involved in theater groups throughout his life. From primary school to secondary school, from his church to the polytechnic in Ibadan, and even during his time at the University of Lagos, he consistently nurtured his passion for acting.

Since embarking on his acting career six years ago, Ogunsin acknowledged that it hasn’t been an easy path. However, he has remained determined to break free from stereotypes and carve out his own unique identity as an actor. He made it clear that he does not seek to be known solely as the “albino actor,” but rather as an actor who happens to have albinism—a crucial distinction that sets him apart.

With an unyielding spirit and dedication to his craft, Ogunsin has triumphed over discrimination and societal biases, refusing to be confined by others’ limited perspectives. His story serves as a powerful reminder that talent knows no boundaries, and the pursuit of one’s dreams should never be hindered by external factors.

As Damilola Ogunsin continues to make his mark in the Nigerian film industry, his story inspires countless individuals to challenge societal norms and embrace their true potential, regardless of any perceived limitations. His resilience and commitment to his passion make him a beacon of hope and a role model for aspiring actors everywhere.
