Abia State Governor Declares Zero Tolerance for Corruption and Non-Performance
Gov. Alex Otti Takes a Stand Against Corruption and Non-Performance in Abia State

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to eradicating corruption and non-performance. The governor made this declaration on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of 16 Commissioners at the Banquet Hall of the Government House.

In a bid to assemble a competent team, Governor Otti had previously forwarded 19 Commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly for confirmation. However, only 16 of them successfully passed the screening process, while three were unavailable for scrutiny.

During the ceremony, Governor Otti urged the newly sworn-in Commissioners to prioritize the interests of the state above all else. He emphasized that they should not entertain any excuses for failure, stressing that their appointment was not meant to serve the interests of individuals or specific groups.

Governor Otti stated, “You must therefore spend your waking hours thinking about the entire state as a single constituency; made up of men and women who yearn for better opportunities to advance themselves economically and socially.” He warned against betraying the trust of the people and emphasized that his administration would have zero tolerance for corruption and selfish pursuits.

Highlighting the prevailing challenges in the state, Otti called on the newly appointed Commissioners to join him in the task of rebuilding Abia. He acknowledged that the state was in dire need of improvement in various aspects, and the citizens were eagerly anticipating positive changes that would enhance their lives.

Job creation, poverty alleviation, and measurable improvements in the living conditions of the average Abian were identified by Governor Otti as the focal points of his policies. He stressed the importance of prioritizing these fundamental aspects to demonstrate his administration’s commitment to delivering tangible benefits to the people.

The governor also cautioned the Commissioners against engaging in sycophancy, reiterating his stance against such behavior. He made it clear that their performance would be evaluated solely based on their contributions to improving the lives of the people and advancing the state’s development. While acknowledging that results could not be achieved overnight, he emphasized the need for a daily commitment to fulfilling the promises made during the election campaign.

Furthermore, Governor Otti disclosed that the remaining three Commissioner nominees who had yet to be cleared by the State House of Assembly would be sworn in the following week. These individuals were identified as Mike Akpara, who had traveled abroad for medical treatment, Ngozi Blessing Felix, and Ikechukwu Monday, who had recently returned from overseas after working there.

Vanguard reported that out of the 19 Commissioners, four are women, while 15 are men, indicating a diverse representation within the new team.

Expressing their gratitude, Mr. Ikechukwu Uwanna, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, spoke on behalf of the newly appointed Commissioners. He thanked Governor Otti for providing them with the opportunity to contribute to the state’s development and assured their unwavering dedication to the rapid transformation of Abia for the benefit of all its residents.
