It turned out to be a night of plenty goals when Arsenal made the short trip to West London to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The Gunners opened the scoring with Eddie Nketiah finding the back of the net early on in the fourth minute.
Timo Werner equalized in the 18th minute to restore parity. Arsenal then scored courtesy Emil Smith-Rowe and Arsenal began to dominate major parts on the pitch. On the stove of half time, Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta scored to level the score line at 2-2 after 45 minutes.
At the restart Chelsea and Arsenal were playing end to end football and more chances were created by both sides. Eddie Nketiah struck again to put the score at 2-3. Gabriel Martinelli came on for the brace hero Nketiah. Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku was however booed by his own club’s fans when he was taken off for German forward Kai Havertz.
Chelsea made more substitutions in an attempt to equalize but Arsenal’s defence put up a strong resistance. Chelsea kept pressing in search of a breakthrough but nothing was forthcoming. Arsenal were on a counter strategy when the unexpected happened.
Arsenal had a good move of the ball and then Cedric Soares put in a telling cross into the eighteen-yard box and Bukayo Saka was felled by Azpilicueta. The referee pointed to the spot and this resulted in a brawl between Chelsea and Arsenal players. The VAR decision was penalty. Bukayo Saka converted from the 12-yard spot to give Arsenal an away victory at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal are level on points with Spurs but are behind by an 8 goal difference. Chelsea remain third with six points clear off Spurs and Arsenal.
