The spokesperson of the Nigerian Vice President, Mr. Laolu Akande, has described his principal, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, as an inspiration to many individuals and the nation at large. In a birthday message to the Vice President who turned 66, Mr. Akande emphasized the importance of inspiration and imagination in personal and national fulfillment, stating that those who can inspire must remain at the forefront.
Mr. Akande further explained that the Vice President is an inspirer, and watching him do things is inspiring in itself. He added that the Vice President’s qualities, such as excellence, endurance, and empathy, are attributes that he exemplifies and uses to inspire individuals, groups, and nations to attain their goals and objectives.
According to Mr. Akande, the Vice President’s empathy took him to Maiduguri in the early months of the Buhari administration, where he led a charitable effort that produced a learning center for orphans coming out of the insurgency. These children have been receiving some of the best types of education available anywhere in the world for the last six years.
Mr. Akande also cited the Vice President’s endurance, which enabled him to sustain the pursuit of vision by imbuing patience and humility that creates perseverance. This quality kept him in place when malevolent forces were bent on diminishing the effective delivery of public goods directly to the people of Nigeria, particularly in the Social Investment Programme of the Buhari Administration.
Finally, Mr. Akande highlighted the Vice President’s pursuit of excellence, which makes him interrogate his aides and people pushing laudable ideas in and out of government by demanding for scaling up the numbers. He encourages thinking big and not just out of the box, doing the hard part, applying oneself, being relentless, and working tirelessly at goals.
