Nigerian elite referee Yemisi Akintoye, who holds a FIFA badge, has been chosen to officiate at the 2023 African Women’s Champions League in Cote d’Ivoire from November 5 to November 19.

Akintoye, a graduate of the University of Lagos, was among the 17 referees shortlisted from across Africa and was ultimately selected as one of the 12 referees following an intensive one-week pre-tournament training program.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) issued a statement on Monday confirming Akintoye’s participation in the 2023 African Women’s Champions League, where she will join other referees.

Notably, Akintoye will officiate alongside Salma Musaganda from Rwanda, who holds the distinction of being the first African woman referee to officiate at a men’s World Cup.

Akintoye earned her FIFA Referee badge in 2021 and has previously officiated at various international competitions, including the WAFU Women’s Champions League and the Aisha Buhari Tournament, among others.
