In Defense of Justice: NLC Stands by the Nigerian Judiciary

Last Tuesday, NLC released a statement expressing concerns regarding interim injunctions granted by certain judges through ex parte applications. However, the statement was misinterpreted by some quarters, sparking allegations that NLC was undermining the judicial system. Ajaero, on behalf of NLC, addressed these misconceptions, assuring the public of the union’s unwavering faith in the judiciary.

“We want to state unambiguously that our faith in the judiciary remains unshakeable,” affirmed Ajaero. “It is the bastion of justice and a refuge from storms, hailstones, and floods for both us and the ordinary citizen.”

Highlighting the significance of the courts, Ajaero reiterated NLC’s commitment to honoring and valuing judicial officers while promoting the institution of the judiciary as an integral part of sustaining Nigeria’s democracy. NLC firmly believes that without a credible judiciary, the nation would be susceptible to mob culture or tyranny, both of which must be avoided.

“Our defense, protection, and projection of the judiciary align with our dedication to the culture of law and order,” stated Ajaero. “It has always been our steadfast belief, even in situations where the NICN rulings may not favor us, that we must hold the court in high regard.”

NLC’s stance seeks to dispel any doubts about their commitment to the judiciary, reinforcing their position as a responsible and law-abiding organization. Despite occasional unfavorable rulings from the NICN, NLC maintains immense respect for the court and acknowledges its crucial role in the legal framework of the country.

As Nigeria’s foremost labor union, NLC’s unwavering support for the judiciary underscores their dedication to upholding justice, safeguarding workers’ rights, and fostering a democratic society.
