The evacuation is being carried out in conjunction with the Federal Government through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Nigerian Embassy in Sudan.

In a statement issued by the commission, it was revealed that more buses were expected to arrive today to evacuate the remaining stranded students. The buses will transport the students to the border in Egypt from where they will be airlifted to Nigeria. The statement further disclosed that the registration of students had already begun ahead of their departure.

The evacuation of Nigerian students from Sudan comes amidst escalating tensions in the country following a military coup that saw the ousting of Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok.

The coup triggered widespread protests and violence in the country, leading to the imposition of a state of emergency by the military. As a result, several foreign governments have issued travel advisories and urged their citizens to leave the country.

The Nigerian government has also urged its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Sudan and other crisis-ridden areas. The government has also deployed its security agencies to secure the country’s borders and prevent the influx of illegal migrants and armed groups.

The evacuation of Nigerian students from Sudan is a proactive measure by the Nigerian government to ensure the safety of its citizens in the face of the ongoing crisis in the country. The NiDCOM has assured Nigerians that it would continue to work with relevant agencies to ensure the safe evacuation of its citizens from crisis-ridden areas.
