The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) has confirmed that Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, was placed in a separate cell during his time at the Kirikiri Correctional Center in Lagos, due to his unique physical features. This was disclosed by Deputy Controller Michael Anugwa on Monday during a House of Representatives Joint Committee hearing on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions.

Anugwa addressed allegations made by social media personality Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, who claimed that Bobrisky, sentenced to six months in jail, had been housed in an apartment outside the correctional facility. Anugwa refuted these claims, stating unequivocally that Bobrisky was never held outside the facility.

“Bobrisky was admitted on April 13th, 2024, with a valid warrant and a transfer order from Ikoyi Correctional Facility. He arrived around 10:30 p.m. that day, and his biometric data was taken the next morning,” Anugwa testified.

He explained that Bobrisky spent 10 days in the Medium Correctional Center before being moved to the Maximum facility. The transfer was prompted by Bobrisky’s refusal to eat the provided prison food, leading him to apply for self-feeding privileges, which were approved. Bobrisky nominated two individuals, Ogunleye Abiola and Moji Ogunleye, to deliver food to him while in custody.

The Deputy Controller further noted that Bobrisky’s placement in a separate cell was necessitated by his physical characteristics. “During admission, we discovered that Idris, though a man, had special features like breasts that would not allow us to put him in the general cell,” Anugwa said, justifying the decision to house Bobrisky separately.

He added that while Bobrisky was in custody, he received a total of 39 visitors.

The House of Representatives Committee is investigating claims of corruption involving the NCS and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Bobrisky’s case. Bobrisky’s placement and treatment in custody remain under scrutiny as the investigation continues.
