Enugu State Police have arrested two brothers, Chinedu Nnaona, 25, and Maduabuchi Nnaona, 21, for the alleged murder of two individuals, Christian Ngene and his 12-year-old son Promise Ngene. The suspects purportedly committed the crime with the intention of stealing and selling their uncle’s Mitsubishi Grandis car.

The incident occurred in Onuakpaka, Ndiagu-Akpugo community, Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu. The suspects, who live in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, conspired to travel to their uncle’s residence in Enugu. They arrived at the location on March 12 and gained access to the compound by scaling the fence.

To obtain the key to the car, the brothers used a baluster to attack the security guard, Christian Ngene. When he resisted, they stabbed him to death with knives. They then proceeded to murder their uncle’s son, Promise Ngene, while he was sleeping to avoid being exposed. The brothers were unable to locate the key and left the scene empty-handed.

The following day, the suspects attempted to treat their injuries sustained during the attack with Christian Ngene. However, they were arrested by police operatives in Maryland, Enugu. The police seized two knives, two hand gloves, and broken pieces of concrete material (baluster) from the scene.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Ammani, expressed his condolences to the immediate and extended family members and friends of the deceased victims. He described the incident as barbaric and vowed to ensure that the suspects face justice. The Commissioner instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to expedite the investigation and arraign the suspects in court.

The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Daniel Ndukwe, released a statement on Thursday, March 16, revealing the details of the case. The police acted on credible information and arrested the brothers on March 13. The suspects confessed to the crime during preliminary investigations. The police evacuated the bodies of the victims and deposited them in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
