Lionel Messi’s stint with Barcelona has apparently come to an end as he has reportedly agreed to personal terms with Premier League club Manchester City.
Per a report from UK news outlet Daily Record, the Argentine player has agreed to a transfer to the Etihad Stadium in a deal worth €700 million (£623 million) with the City Football Group; the same amount as his release clause.
Messi, according to the report, consented to the financial terms over the course of five years that will see him under the employ of the City Football Group.
The contract states that Messi will play at Manchester City for three years and then another two years at Major League Soccer side, New York City FC, also owned by the City Football Group.
Furthermore, Messi will be given an equity stake in the group as part of his compensation package, and on the completion of the deal, will become the highest-paid individual in the history of soccer.
The €700 million release clause Barcelona is demanding for Messi’s release is now being negotiated.
