The impending transfer signals a departure from Old Trafford for the 30-year-old defender, whose place within the Manchester United roster became uncertain following the appointment of Erik ten Hag as the club’s manager last summer. Subsequently, Maguire found himself sidelined, managing only 16 Premier League appearances throughout the previous season.

The decision was communicated by Maguire himself in a candid Twitter post, where he stated, “After discussions with the manager today, he has informed me he is changing captain. He outlined his reasons to me and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt.”
This shift in leadership and the subsequent prospective transfer to West Ham marks the end of an era for Maguire, who initially joined Manchester United from Leicester City in a high-profile £80 million deal back in 2019. Over his tenure, he accumulated a total of 175 appearances for the Red Devils.
