However, a deal has not been agreed upon between De Jong and Manchester City and this stall has resulted in City taking abortive measures regarding a transfer for De Jong.  De Jong joined Barcelona for around £60m back in 2019 from Ajax. The 25-year-old has been tipped for great things amongst legends and pundits.

Barcelona have dilly-dallied for a long time regarding De Jong’s transfer and it is now certain he will not move to the Etihad as City will consider other options. Negotiations and dialogues were at the primary stages but they did not continue further after that week.

Manchester United are eager to get one over their City rivals as they intensify their pursuit of De Jong. The Holland international is now considering a move to Old Trafford as it could mean a reunion with former manager Erik ten Hag from their days at Ajax.

De Jong is not definite about his future and it is looking like Manchester United may stand a chance in the event of him leaving the Camp Nou. Many Manchester United fans are eager to see De Jong at their club and there is hope that an agreement can be reached in a few weeks’ time.

De Jong played 45 times for Barcelona this season and scored 4 goals. Known for his ball retention and distribution, he is also well-versed in defending and breaking up opposition play. De Jong can play as a central midfielder and also as a defensive midfielder.

No fee has been communicated as of yet by Barcelona, but it is rumoured that he will not leave for less than £40-50m. ten Hag is a big fan of the Dutchman and his compatriot may be a catalyst that will aid the transfer to be successful for Manchester United.
