Man City team news

Sergio Aguero took part in training on Monday as Manchester City continued preparations for our Champions League quarter-final second leg with Liverpool. The Argentine striker returned from a knee injury to play 15 minutes of the Manchester derby on Saturday but was the victim of a heavy challenge from Ashley Young late in the game.

But he looked fit and healthy as the City players trained at the CFA under the watchful eye of Pep Guardiola, according to club’s official website.

Earlier on Monday, Guardiola revealed Stones has been struggling with an adductor muscle problem, which is why he missed the derby on Saturday.

“In the last game, he had concussion with the national team, he could not play at Everton and did not train,” Guardiola said.

“And then before United again he felt something in his adductor and it was not perfect, so I decided not to take a risk.

“He knows the confidence I have in him, this season he grew up. He has to fight with these guys to convince me [he should play].” said Guardiola on City’s website

Benjamin Mendy was also present as he continues his recovery from the anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered in September, but both John Stones and Danilo sat out the session out.

Liverpool team news

Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Alberto Moreno could all be in contention to face Manchester City on Tuesday, but the Kops will definitely be without Emre Can and Jordan Henderson at Etihad Stadium.

Robertson (calf) and Moreno (thigh) also sat out the Merseyside derby but, on Monday, Klopp expressed hope that the trio will be fit for the second-leg clash with City.

“With Mo, Robbo and Alberto, we have to wait a little bit but of course [we have] big hope they will be back.

“Ben Woodburn is back after a long period and trained yesterday completely normal, which is really good for us.” said

Liverpool forward Salah opened the scoring as the Reds took charge of their Champions League quarter-final tie with a resounding 3-0 first-leg win last week, but had to be withdrawn in the second half due to a groin issue that also forced him to miss Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Everton.

Midfielders Can (back) and Henderson (suspension) are unavailable for the trip to Manchester, though, as are Adam Lallana (muscle), Joel Matip (thigh) and Joe Gomez (ankle). City boss Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, reported no fresh injury concerns during his pre-match press conference.

Sergio Aguero, who was absent from last week’s first leg at Anfield because of a knee complaint, came on as a substitute in City’s 3-2 defeat to Manchester United at the weekend and may start against the Reds.

An adductor issue forced John Stones to miss Saturday’s Manchester derby, but Guardiola indicated that the centre-back could return to face Liverpool.
