According to a statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Ogun Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old man named Yusuf Hassan for allegedly setting the apartment of his ex-lover, Busayo Falola, on fire.

The incident happened on April 4 at about 1:15 a.m. at 127, old Schorlar Palace, Igan Road, Ago Iwoye, in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun.

The landlady of the house, Adejoke Salau, reported the incident to the Ago Iwoye Divisional Headquarters after hearing a noise and discovering that the building was on fire. She reported that the quick intervention of neighbours rescued the three tenants, but the building was razed to the ground.

During interrogation, Falola informed the police that she saw her ex-lover, Yusuf Hassan, at the back of her window at about 12:30 a.m. on the day of the incident. She said she was scared and ran out of her room to another tenant’s room, which prompted other tenants to come out and discover flames coming out of her room.

Upon further investigation, Yusuf Hassan was apprehended and initially denied knowing anything about the incident. However, he later confessed to being the person who set the house ablaze, saying that he intended to burn his ex-lover in her own apartment because he had tried his best to reconcile with her in vain. He revealed that he bought N500 petrol, poured it into her room through the window, and set it on fire.

The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
