Liverpool’s electrifying form continued with a commanding 7-0 victory over rivals Manchester United at Anfield, with Mohamed Salah setting a new club record as the Premier League’s all-time top scorer.

Liverpool were dominant from the outset, with the game’s first half appearing evenly matched as Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford missed key opportunities to put United ahead. However, former Manchester United transfer target Cody Gakpo broke the deadlock for Liverpool two minutes before half-time, tapping in Andy Robertson’s pass.

In the second half, Liverpool ran riot with four goals in the opening ten minutes. Darwin Nunez’s header from Harvey Elliott’s cross made it 2-0, with Gakpo getting his second goal soon after by latching onto a pass from Salah, who added a third of his own by finishing off a counter-attack. Nunez then added his second and Liverpool’s fifth goal, heading in a cross from Jordan Henderson.

Salah’s record-breaking moment arrived when he scrambled in Liverpool’s sixth goal. This was his 129th Premier League goal for Liverpool, surpassing Robbie Fowler as the club’s top scorer in the competition.

Salah’s dominance over Manchester United continued as he became Liverpool’s highest scorer against United with 11 goals, ten of which he scored in his last five games against them.

Roberto Firmino, who recently announced he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, completed the rout with a close-range finish to make it 7-0. With this emphatic victory, Liverpool closed the gap on fourth-placed Tottenham to just three points, with a game in hand, and signalled their intent in the race for a Champions League spot.
