The Lagos State Judiciary has declared a week-long Easter holiday for its workers. The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, approved the holiday from April 7th to April 14th, allowing the judicial staff to celebrate the occasion.
According to a statement by the Acting Chief Registrar, Mr Tajudeen Elias, which was released on March 13th and made available to the press on Tuesday, the workers are expected to resume work on April 17th. The statement also highlighted the arrangements for dealing with urgent matters during the Easter vacation. Each judge will attend to all urgent applications related to any substantive cause already assigned to them.
The statement also noted that, “Notwithstanding the provision of Order 49, Rule 4, any cause or matter may be heard by a judge during the period of the Easter vacation where such a cause or matter is urgent, provided that the condition prescribed by Order 49 Rule 5 shall be observed and complied with.”
This move by the Lagos State Judiciary is in line with the age-old tradition of granting holiday breaks to workers during important religious celebrations. It is hoped that this brief respite will enable the workers to celebrate Easter with their loved ones and return to their duties with renewed energy and focus.
