Kylian Mbappe Labels PSG as 'Divisive' Amid Contract Standoff
Mbappe Expresses Frustration with PSG, Calls Club ‘Divisive’

Paris St Germain (PSG) finds itself embroiled in a contract dispute with star player Kylian Mbappe, who has recently criticized the club as ‘divisive.’ The relationship between Mbappe and PSG deteriorated last month when the French forward announced his decision not to renew his contract, which is set to expire at the end of the upcoming season. This move potentially allows Mbappe to leave the club for free in June 2024.

If Mbappe fulfills his contract and departs on a free transfer, PSG would be unable to recover any of the staggering €180 million ($197 million) they initially invested in signing him. Determined not to lose their prized asset without compensation, PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi has adamantly stated that Mbappe will not be allowed to leave for free.

Speculation surrounding Mbappe’s future has linked him with a potential move to Real Madrid, intensifying the uncertainty surrounding his future. In an interview with France Football magazine, Mbappe expressed his frustration with playing for PSG, referring to the team as ‘divisive’ without elaborating further.

Although PSG has dominated domestic football in recent years, clinching nine out of the last eleven Ligue 1 titles, Mbappe’s dissatisfaction stems from their performance in the UEFA Champions League. Despite significant investments in strengthening their squad, the Parisian club has never lifted the prestigious European trophy.

This season, PSG exited the Champions League in the round of 16 after suffering defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich, failing to score across both legs. Mbappe himself missed the first leg due to injury and later characterized the team’s performance as “helpless” during the second leg.

Highlighting his own contributions, Mbappe claimed to be the “most decisive player” in the group stage. However, he expressed bewilderment regarding PSG’s inability to progress further, suggesting that the club has encountered a “glass ceiling” in European competitions.

“We did everything we could, period. It’s essential to engage with the individuals responsible for the team, the squad’s organization, and the club’s overall structure,” added Mbappe, hinting at underlying issues within PSG.

As the contract standoff continues, Mbappe’s remarks have shed light on the strained relationship between the player and his club. PSG finds itself at a crossroads, facing the challenge of resolving the contract dispute while striving to address the frustrations expressed by their star forward.
