Kenneth Branagh wants another crack at Thor, has ideas ready

Kenneth Branagh is not done with the God of Thunder. The director who made the first Thor film back in 2011 told Business Insider he'd love to return to the Marvel universe and finish what he started. He says he always had more stories to tell, and even had a couple of ideas brewing.

This is interesting because Branagh only directed that one Thor film before handing the character over to other filmmakers. Since then, Taika Waititi took over with Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder, which became massive hits. But Branagh never really got to explore his full vision for the character.

The thing about superhero franchises is that directors rarely get a second chance at the same character. Marvel usually rotates them around, which is why Branagh's openness to returning feels like a big deal. He's essentially saying the door isn't completely closed on his Thor story.

Of course, there's a massive gap between "I'd love to" and "it's actually happening." Marvel has its plans set for the next few years, and bringing back a director from over a decade ago would be a curveball. But if the MCU ever decides to revisit Thor's origin story or explore a different era of Asgard, Branagh seems like the obvious choice.

It's also worth considering that Branagh has been busy with other massive projects since then. He directed Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, and other stuff. The man's in demand. So even if Marvel called, he'd have to have a gap in his schedule.

Fans of that first Thor film have always appreciated Branagh's grounded approach to the superhero genre. He treated it like a proper drama instead of pure spectacle, which made the character feel real. That kind of direction is rarer in the MCU now, where everything leans heavily into cosmic action and humor.
