Kate Moss just shut down a defamation lawsuit brought by Amber Heard, regarding their mutual ex-boyfriend Johnny Depp.

In an unexpected verdict, the supermodel testified through a video link against the former couple in her defamation trial, appearing weeks after Heard told a Virginia jury that during an alleged confrontation with Depp (also involving the actress’ sister Whitney), she “instantly” thought of Kate Moss and stairs.

Moss recounted the incident of Depp leaving her behind on vacation years ago. “We were leaving the room and Johnny left the room before I did,” she said, “and there had been a rain storm and as I left the room, I slipped down the stairs and I hurt my back.”

“And I screamed because I was in,” she continued, “because I didn’t know what happened to me, and I was in pain and he came running back to help me and carried me to my room and got me medical attention.”

Moss said that Depp never pushed, kicked or threw her down any stairs during the course of their relationship which lasted from 1994 to 1998.

Johnny Depp, 58, and Amber Heard, 36, have filed lawsuits against one another accusing the other of abuse during their marriage. He is suing her for $50 million claiming she defamed him when saying in an essay from The Washington Post written in 2018: “I became a public figure representing domestic abuse,” without naming the actor. She countersued Johnny for $100 million alleging that he has been stalking her “in an ongoing harassment and online smear campaign.”

The trial comes nearly a year after Depp lost a libel case against U.K. newspaper publisher News Group Newspapers over a 2018 The Sun article that labeled him a “wife beater.” Heard, who testified at that trial, alleged during that trial that Depp abused her with no physical evidence to back up her claim, which he denied.

At the time, she also spoke about the alleged confrontation involving herself, Depp and her sister, telling the judge, that she “remembered information I had heard he pushed a former girlfriend—I believe it was Kate Moss—down the stairs.” Depp’s lawyer pointed out to the court that this marked the first time Heard had mentioned any recollection of the alleged stairs incident, Reuters reported. Moss was not called to testify in that trial.

In a 2020 ruling against Depp, that U.K. judge stated, “Although he has proved the necessary elements of his cause of action in libel, the defendants have shown that what they published in the meaning which I have held the words to bear was substantially true.”

Closing arguments in the Virginia trial are due Friday, May 27.
