Kaduna State Pension Bureau’s Executive Secretary, Professor Salamatu Isah, has announced the commencement of the payment process for Retirement and Death Benefits beneficiaries who lack bank details. According to a statement by Professor Isah, the identification of beneficiaries will be carried out by Local Government Pension Desk Officers and their counterparts at various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of the Government. The payment verification will take place next week at various zonal headquarters.
The payment schedule reveals that State pensioners will receive N400 million, while Local Government beneficiaries will receive N520 million. This follows Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s approval of N900 million in November 2022 for the payment of Accrued Rights for retirees and families of deceased beneficiaries under the new Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
Professor Salamatu Isah has also stated that payment of retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme is being handled by the Pension Funds Administrators (PFAs), while the government will only pay past savings. These savings, known as Accrued Rights, are the retirees’ entitlements before the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme in 2017, and they are paid to PFAs instead of individual beneficiaries.
Batch 21 of State pensioners and Batch 19 of Local Government pensioners have 112 and 134 beneficiaries, respectively, and fall under the category of beneficiaries who lack bank details. In the breakdown of the payment, N600,000,000 has been allocated to state retirees and deceased families, while N300,000,000 was allocated to local government retirees and families of the deceased.
The November 2022 release came two weeks after Governor El Rufai had earlier approved N1, 160,000,000.00 for the payment of gratuity for Batch 17 Local Government pensioners and Batch 19 of State Government retirees and families of the deceased under the old Defined Benefits Scheme (DBS).
