DC Comics’ Joker is off to a terrific opening at the box office with an unprecedented $93 million opening – the biggest ever for the month of October.
The movie which was directed by Todd Phillips has faced a lot of controversy for its violent content, which many feared would inspire further shootings in the United States but that hasn’t stopped fans from trooping out to see it.
Internationally, Joker has made $234 million and as we all know, figures are a pointer to whether or not a movie is worth watching. Judging by its achievement, Joker appears to be a major win for DC.
Lead actor Joaquin Phoenix had to go through a stunning transformation (he lost a lot of weight) for the role of the demented character and revealed that he almost went over the edge of sanity during production. The fact that his efforts have been rewarded by the monumental success of the film is a testament of his prowess as an actor and makes all the efforts he put worth it.
DC’s next movie to look out for is Birds of Prey and fans will be hoping that it will emulate the success of Joker.
