Dr. Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, the Lagos Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, has claimed that the former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Bode George, has never supported any PDP governorship candidate in Lagos State since 1999. Jandor’s statement was made in response to George’s recent interview on national television in which he explained why he did not support Jandor’s candidacy for the March 18 governorship election in Lagos State.

During the interview, George had stated that he had no regrets not supporting Jandor, adding that a group called Omo Eko Pataki, consisting of bonafide Lagosians, evaluated all the candidates, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Jandor, and decided that Jandor was not fit for the position of governor. He further explained that his support for Labour Party’s Rhodes-Vivour was not to win but to keep the All Progressives Congress (APC) in power.

However, Jandor, through his media and communications head, Gbenga Ogunleye, accused George of working against the interest of the PDP and deliberately causing trouble within the Lagos PDP to help the ruling party remain in office. He claimed that George had a history of working against PDP gubernatorial candidates since 2003 when Funsho Williams contested, and had repeated the same in 2007, 2015, and 2019.

Jandor also criticized George’s lack of support for his candidacy, stating that George’s own sons had not contributed anything to the upliftment of Lagos, and thus, he was unable to appreciate Jandor’s achievements. He expressed his disappointment that the hope of the people of Lagos State for a breath of fresh air had suffered a momentary setback due to the actions of individuals like George.

Jandor urged the PDP to resolve their internal differences and probe why the G5 governors and other elders in the party withdrew their support for the party. He expressed his conviction that the vision to rescue Lagos from the grip of the ruling party, which has held the state by the jugular in the last 24 years, would be realized, and power would be returned to the people. In the recently concluded governorship election in Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the APC won with a total of 762,134 votes, while LP polled 312,329 votes, and PDP polled 62,449 votes.
