JAMB Vows to Release UTME Results Holistically

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced on Wednesday that the results of the rescheduled mock examination for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) held on Tuesday have been released. Over 84,000 candidates took the exam in 387 centres across Nigeria. JAMB also reiterated that the results of the main UTME would not be released piecemeal but holistically, meaning that the entire results of the eight-day exercise will be collated before they are released to candidates.

The mock examination, which was introduced by JAMB to test the preparedness of its facilities and give candidates hands-on experience of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) environment, was initially held on Thursday, March 30, 2023. However, some candidates could not sit for the mock examination due to technical challenges.

According to JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin, the rescheduled mock examination was a success, and the Board will not shy away from taking necessary steps aimed at transforming the conduct of public examinations in Nigeria. The Board has consolidated its software and is ready to give Nigerians the best, he said.

While the results of the mock examination have been released promptly, JAMB emphasized that this would not be the case for the main UTME, which is scheduled to commence from 25th April, 2023. The Board will screen all the results to ensure that they are not a product of infractions and other unwholesome practices, so that it does not have to recall any particular result on account of established cases of malpractice. Assessing the entire results enables the Board to obtain the overall standard deviation and mean of the performance of all the candidates who sat the examination, and to aggregate the general performance of all candidates into the national education planning template.
