The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the Direct Entry registration deadline by one week. The registration, which began on March 20, 2023, was initially scheduled to end on April 20, 2023, but will now run until April 27, 2023.
The extension was announced on Monday following a meeting of the board’s management, partly to give all holders of Cambridge A/Level Certificates who were unable to register earlier an opportunity to do so. The extension is also to accommodate other candidates who were unable to register within the stipulated time.
It is important to note that candidates awaiting Cambridge Certificates will not be accepted. JAMB’s spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, released a statement confirming the extension, explaining that the British Council would provide a verification portal for the seamless verification of Cambridge Certificates. The Board has, therefore, reconsidered its earlier stand on the non-inclusion of Cambridge certificates for DE registration.
All holders of Cambridge Certificates who desire to register for the 2023 Direct Entry can proceed to any of the Board’s offices nearest to them to register for the exercise. The statement reiterated that “Awaiting Results” would not be accepted.
JAMB modified its DE registration platform after discovering falsification of A/Level results. The board’s aim was to ensure that only certificates with verifiable processes are allowed as entry requirements for the DE exercise. The board published a number of certificates that are allowed for DE registration, excluding the Cambridge Certificate. However, the British Council dispatched a high-level delegation that met with the Board’s management to establish a credible verification platform for its Cambridge A/L Certificates, thereby curbing incidences of falsification of results experienced with many other A/L certificates approved as part of DE entry requirements.
