Two staff members of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have been dismissed for gross misconduct. Dr Fabian Benjamin, the spokesperson for the Board, released a statement on Wednesday in Abuja confirming the dismissals.

The two individuals who were fired were named as Mr Bilyaminu Ishaku and Mr Andrew Anebi Candidus, both of whom worked at the JAMB Benue State Office in Markurdi. Their dismissal was effective from February 27th, 2023.

According to the statement, the decision to dismiss the staff members followed their appearance before the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee and the subsequent recommendations of the committee. The statement read, “Sequel to your appearance before the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee and the subsequent recommendations of the committee, I am directed to convey to you the approval of the Honourable Minister of Education of your dismissal from the service of the Board from 27th February, 2023 for serious misconduct.”

The statement also cited Public Service Rule 030401, which defines serious misconduct as “a specific act of very serious wrongdoing and improper behavior, which is inimical to the image of the service and which can be investigated and if proven, may lead to dismissal.”

The affected staff members were instructed to hand in their identity cards and all other property belonging to the Board that was in their possession to the State Coordinator at the JAMB Office in Benue State. The property was to be forwarded to the Director of Human Resources immediately.
