The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has announced the rescheduling of the governorship and House of Assembly elections in eight polling units in Eti-Osa LCDA to Sunday, March 19, 2023. Mrs. Tadese Adenike, the Commission’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity, made this announcement in a statement. The affected polling units are located in Victoria Garden City Estate in Eti Osa Local Government Area.

Mrs. Adenike explained that the refusal of residents to come out to vote caused the cancellation of the election in the affected polling units. She noted that the Commission had to issue a press release to dispel any rumors and accusations that might arise due to the cancellation.

Mrs. Adenike further stated that the Adhoc Staff engaged for the conduct of the Presidential/ National Assembly Election on 25th February, 2023, which involved extended work hours as late as 4:00am on 26th February, 2023, were traumatized, which was hazardous to their general well-being.

To prevent such occurrences from happening again, the Electoral Officer for Eti-Osa was directed to reach a compromise with the Management of VGC to hold today’s Governorship/ House of Assembly Election in front of the Estate Gate. However, despite the deployment of police and military personnel to ensure safety and peace, the residents of VGC refused to come out to vote on the 18th of March.

After consultation with the Commission, it was decided that the election be rescheduled to hold at VGC Eti-Osa LGA on Sunday, March 19, 2023, between the hours of 8:30 am and 2:30 pm. It was revealed that there are 6,024 registered voters at VGC, while the number of PVCs collected was 5,624.

The Independent National Electoral Commission reassured the public that they will not disenfranchise voters and urged the residents of VGC to be orderly and law-abiding during the conduct of the rescheduled election on Sunday, March 19, 2023.
