Lawan’s announcement comes amidst speculation and media reports suggesting his intentions to run for another term.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Lawan emphatically denied any such plans, stating that he has not informed anyone of his intention to seek re-election nor has he held any meetings pertaining to this matter.

The Senate President, who represents Yobe North, expressed his commitment to resolving the ongoing leadership tussle within the All Progressives Congress (APC), of which he is a prominent stakeholder.

This declaration follows the recent announcement by the APC, naming Godswill Akpabio, former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, as their preferred candidate for the Senate presidency, with Barau Jibrin, Senator representing Kano North, as the party’s choice for the deputy position.

The party’s decision has sparked controversy and dissent within its ranks, prompting various individuals to oppose the official candidates.

Lawan clarified his stance, asserting that he remains focused on finding a lasting solution to the leadership crisis that has plagued the 10th National Assembly.

In his statement, he addressed the circulating media reports, explaining, “I have read some media reports that I have joined the race for the presidency of the 10th Senate.

“Ordinarily, I would not have responded to these reports, but when lies are not refuted, they have the tendency to create an illusion of truth.”

“The truth is that I have never told anyone or held a meeting with anyone that I am running for the presidency of the 10th Senate. So the public should discountenance the reports.

Reiterating his loyalty to the APC, Lawan emphasized his dedication to addressing the numerous challenges arising from the leadership contests within the party. As a key figure within the All Progressives Congress, he remains committed to resolving the issues at hand and maintaining the party’s unity.

Lawan’s announcement has generated a wave of speculation and intrigue within political circles, as stakeholders eagerly await further developments in the ongoing leadership saga of the 10th National Assembly.
