Ibrahimovic was part of the league-winning side of AC Milan in the 2021/2022 season, with the title race going down to the final day as Milan defeated Sassuolo 0-3.

The 40-year-old will now face a long time of injury and the club has confirmed he will not feature till the end of the year. The Rossoneri will now begin a plot to sign another striker, with Bayern Munich’s Joshua Zirkzee a target for the Milan club. Ibrahimovic has played an important role under Stefano Pioli and the superstar striker will be greatly missed.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored 8 goals in 23 Serie A appearances this season and he also featured in the UEFA Champions League that saw Milan eliminated at the group stage.  Ibrahimovic has been a big club player, having played at PSG, Ajax, Inter Milan, AC Milan(2x), Manchester United, Juventus, and Barcelona.

Sources close to the Sweden captain are saying he will retire at the end of the season-June 30. His contract with AC Milan also expires that day. It is very likely that the star forward will hang his boots after a 23-year presence playing senior football across Europe’s top five leagues. Stefano Pioli is unhappy about the recent development and now attention turns to finding a striker. Joshua Zirkzee is on the list as well as the incoming Divock Origi who will join from Liverpool at the end of the season.

AC Milan is working hard to ensure that Portugal winger Rafa Leao will remain at the club next season amidst Real Madrid links. The talented wide man has been on the cards of a great many clubs and Madrid is on the front burner to land the 21-year-old.
