The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak has congratulated Bola Tinubu, Nigeria’s president-elect for winning the election.

TalkGlitz Media had reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Wednesday declared Tinubu the winner of the 2023 presidential election held last Saturday.

INEC’s Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu declared Tinubu the winner in the early hours of Wednesday, having satisfied the conditions of the electoral act.

In the declared result, Tinubu polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

Atiku scored 6,984,520 votes to come second, while Obi came third, garnering 6,101,533 votes to come third.

Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) got 1,496,687 votes to come fourth in the presidential election.

Reacting to Tinubu’s victory, Sunak in a post on Twitter said he looks forward to working with Nigeria to grow the two country’s security and trade.

“Congratulations to @officialABAT on his victory in Nigeria,” he tweeted.

“The UK-Nigeria relationship remains strong. I look forward to working together to grow our security and trade ties, opening up opportunities for businesses and creating prosperity in both our countries.”
