The House of Representatives has postponed the resumption of legislative activities for a week to allow its members to participate in the rescheduled gubernatorial elections.

The Clerk of the House, Dr Yahaya Danzaria, made the announcement in a notice sent to all the members. The initial plan was to resume activities on the 14th of March, but it has been postponed to the 21st of March, 2023, at 11:00 am.

The Independent National Electoral Commission postponed the Governorship election from Saturday, 11th March 2023, to enable the reconfiguration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System machines. Also, Mrs Cham Faliya Sharon, an Abuja-based social affairs analyst, called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the position of the Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the 10th Assembly to the North Central geopolitical zone and support the incumbent Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, as the next Speaker.

She applauded the party’s performance in the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections and noted that the party’s triumph was well-earned because of its achievements in office. She added that zoning the Speaker’s position to the North Central region and supporting Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase to occupy the office would be an exercise of recognition and reward for loyalty and sacrifice. The Chairman of the House Committee on Navy, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, has joined the race for the position of the Speaker of the 10th session of the House of Representatives.
