Harry Kane is in the news again, not Man City this time but Manchester United are the club in the running for the England skipper who has been rumoured to leave North London at the end of the season. Kane is reported to be very happy at Tottenham, with the arrival of Antonio Conte at the club following the sack of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Tottenham are working to ensure that Kane remains at the club for next season and they are planning to extend his current contract which will expire in 2023. Harry Kane has been at Tottenham since he was a child and the Spurs scouser is a fan favourite at the club. Kane hit the big scenes when he made his senior debut in 2011 as an eighteen-year-old in the UEFA Europa League and he scored his first hat-trick in the competition three years later.

Kane was called up to the England squad managed by Roy Hodgson in 2015 when the Three Lions were preparing for the Euro Championship in 2016 and he scored his first England goal on his debut. Kane has gone on to win three golden boot awards in the Premier League, in 2015/16, 2016/17, and also in the 2020/21 season. He also won the Playmaker’s award in 2020/21 as he finished the league with the highest assists.

Harry Kane was named England captain under current manager Gareth Southgate just before the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and during that competition, Kane won the Golden Boot with six goals in the tourney. England made it as far as the semi-finals that year, losing 2-1 to Croatia after Kieran Trippier’s free-kick could not save them.

Kane had a slow goalscoring start to the season and his first PL goal was his first in eight games, which many considered shocking. Kane is now the highest English player with a combination of goals and assists in the PL this season, with 21 goals and assists combined. He is one ahead of Jarrod Bowen who plays at West Ham.

Manchester United are weighing up a move for the England captain but it is not certain that Kane will accept to transfer to Old Trafford. Sources close to Kane claim he is very happy with his coach and that Conte also rates him very highly and is urging the board to meet with Kane’s demands this summer in an attempt to keep the star striker at his boyhood club longer than expected.

United are expected to make an official bid of £85m to Tottenham to try and sign Kane this summer.  Recall that Tottenham turned down a £130m bid from Manchester City last summer after City parted ways with Sergio Aguero. It is still not certain on what happens in the coming weeks and it largely depends on if Sours will be in the Champions League next season. Manchester United can not qualify for the Champions League next season mathematically after amassing 58 points from 37 games this season, their lowest since the Premier League’s inception in 1992.
