The Supreme Court has since issued a ruling, halting the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from implementing the February 10th deadline for the validity of old notes.

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara stated that the decision to take the matter to the Supreme Court was made in an effort to protect the economy of Nigeria from further crises and to alleviate the difficulties faced by ordinary citizens. He believes that those who are against their victory at the Supreme Court are either misinformed or driven by political biases.

The governor also expressed his belief that it is necessary for the CBN and commercial banks to make the new naira notes readily available for day-to-day transactions before declaring the old notes illegal. He expressed disappointment at the political opposition to the Supreme Court’s decision and emphasized the importance of putting aside political differences and working together to address the current challenges.
