Governor Makinde Vows to Expedite Reconciliation Process for Afenifere Leaders, Signals Unity in Yorubaland

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Nigeria, made a significant move towards fostering peace, unity, and progress in Yorubaland by attending a crucial meeting of leaders of thought in the pan-Yoruba sociopolitical group, Afenifere, on Tuesday. The governor’s presence at the gathering held at the prestigious Otunba Subomi Balogun Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, marked a commitment to resolve the differences between two prominent figures in the group, Pa Reuben Fasoranti and Pa Ayo Adebanjo.

Acknowledging that the general election had concluded, Governor Makinde emphasized that the time had come to initiate a process that would reunite the two leaders in the best interest of Yoruba land. He further declared that resolving these differences would be swift, recognizing the significance of unity within the Yoruba race.

Governor Makinde emphasized, “We are all aware of the issues between our two Afenifere leaders, Pa Ayo Adebanjo and Pa Reuben Fasoranti. Basically, partisan and election issues have come and gone, and we are now talking about the unity of the Yoruba race. So, these frontline leaders thought it fit to come together to start the process of seeking unity in Yorubaland.”

Highlighting the interconnectedness between Yorubaland’s unity and that of Nigeria as a whole, the governor noted, “And we know that once our two Babas come together, we will also have the deserved unity in Nigeria. If you put it in proper perspective, whenever Yorubaland is united, Nigeria is united, and whenever we have issues and challenges in Yorubaland, it usually spirals into other parts of Nigeria.”

Governor Makinde expressed his unwavering commitment to seeking peace in Yorubaland, assuring that the process would commence promptly. He asserted, “I can tell you that it is not something that we will procrastinate on. We will get to work immediately, and I am sure that we will get the desired result within the shortest possible time.”

With unwavering confidence, the governor believed that once the Yoruba people witnessed the reunion of Pa Fasoranti and Pa Adebanjo, the differences caused by their previous issues would be buried. He emphasized, “Once you tie the knot at the appropriate places, every other thing will fall in place. Once our people see the two leaders come together and talk, they will be the ones to appeal to the people. At that time, you won’t have to talk much because people would have seen that the leaders are now back together.”

Governor Seyi Makinde’s participation in the Afenifere meeting showcased his dedication to fostering peace and unity in Yorubaland. His active involvement in resolving the differences between the two leaders of the group highlighted the significance of their unity not only for Yorubaland but also for the broader unity of Nigeria.

The governor’s optimistic outlook and swift action underscored his commitment to achieving the desired results promptly. With the prospect of witnessing Pa Fasoranti and Pa Adebanjo reunite, Governor Makinde expressed confidence in the Yoruba people’s ability to unite and overcome their differences, paving the way for a brighter future.
