In a significant move, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced the dissolution of the Oyo State Executive Council, along with the termination of all political appointments with immediate effect. The decision, which was conveyed in a letter signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor and Chairman of the Transition & Inauguration Committee, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, marks a notable change in the state’s political landscape.
The letter, addressed to all political officeholders, stated, “I have the directive of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, to inform you of the dissolution of the Oyo State Executive Council and the termination of the appointment of all political officeholders with effect from today, Tuesday, May 23, 2023.”
Furthermore, the letter emphasized the need for a smooth transition of responsibilities, as it urged all political officeholders to officially hand over and submit all government properties under their custody to the most senior civil servant in their respective Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. This directive ensures a seamless transfer of power and the preservation of government assets.
However, it is important to note that the directive exempts political officeholders in statutory commissions from the dissolution and termination of appointments. This indicates that certain offices will remain operational, providing continued stability in essential areas.
