Governor Adeleke Refutes Rumors of Pardoning Convicted Murderer in Osun State
Osun State Governor Firmly Denies Intention to Grant Pardon to Convicted Murderer

In a recent statement, the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, categorically denied any plans to pardon Dr. Rahman Adedoyin, who was convicted for the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a postgraduate student of Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State. Adedoyin, along with two of his workers, was sentenced to death last month by the Osun State Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Ojo, following a lengthy trial.

The denial came in response to circulating rumors on social media suggesting that the governor intended to intervene and pardon Adedoyin, who had already lodged an appeal against the judgment. Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, released a statement on Monday, clarifying the governor’s position and dismissing the rumors as the work of “evil-minded political operatives.”

According to the statement, the governor is determined not to interfere with any judicial process, including the ongoing case involving Adedoyin. The statement emphasized that Governor Adeleke firmly stands against any attempts to manipulate the justice system and that his sole agenda is to ensure that the perpetrators of the heinous crime face the full force of the law.

The spokesperson stated, “It is important to clarify that neither the State Governor nor his political party has any hidden plot on the said murder case other than a public interest agenda to see culprits in the dastardly act face the full wrath of the law. That explains why no PDP member is involved as counsel for any of the convicted individuals and why the state judiciary enjoys and exercises its full independence in the hearing and judgment of the case.”

Furthermore, the statement affirmed that Governor Adeleke has no personal affiliation or partnership with the owner of Oduduwa University, where Adedoyin is associated, and has played no role in the arraignment, hearing, or sentencing of the accused. The governor’s spokesperson condemned the attempt to link the governor to the convicted businessman, labeling it as baseless and driven by political enemies seeking to tarnish his reputation.

The statement concluded by expressing gratitude to those who have defended the governor against the spread of false information and assured the public that neither the state government nor the governor has any intention of subverting the course of justice. It urged the public to disregard the rumors and dismiss the claims as the work of “agents of darkness” acting on behalf of disgruntled and malicious political elements.

As the murder case continues to generate interest locally and globally, Governor Adeleke’s statement serves to reaffirm his commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served for the victim and his family.
