Ginter Snubs Bayern Amid Frieburg Interest
Matthias Ginter

Germany international Matthias Ginter is set to re-join his boyhood club SC Frieburg as he nears the end of his current contract at Borussia Monchengladbach. The 28-year-old has been scouted and monitored by various clubs around Europe; Arsenal, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Frieburg are happy with the development as their star defender Nico Schlotterbeck has signed a long-term contract with Borussia Dortmund. Ginter, though older, offers a wealth of experience in the heart of defence as he has been a Germany international for a long time.

Ginter has been a pivotal figure in Gladbach’s recent good form, being in contention for European places. The centre-back signed in 2017 on a five-year deal and in June he has agreed to go back to Frieburg. In a recent interview when he was asked why he chose Frieburg he said it was a club that had a special place in his heart and he was confident on being in the World Cup team as the new club have assured him regular minutes.

‘Gladbach winger Breel Embolo will also explore his options outside Germany as he is on many club’s radar. Manchester United and West Ham are in the running for the Swiss.
