Gbenga Daniel’s crew rejects Abiodun’s Senate pick, says process is dodgy

Governor Dapo Abiodun tried to settle the 2027 Ogun East Senate race by endorsing a consensus candidate, but it's already blowing up in his face. Loyalists of Gbenga Daniel, another major player in the race, have flat out rejected the endorsement, saying the whole process was flawed and nobody properly consulted them.

The drama started when Abiodun came out to back a candidate as the consensus choice for the Ogun East Senate seat in the 2027 elections. But Daniel's people looked at how this was done and basically said, "Nah, we're not buying this." They're arguing that the process wasn't transparent, wasn't inclusive, and didn't follow any proper procedure that would make this endorsement actually stick.

This kind of thing happens in Nigerian politics all the time. A big figure tries to unite the party by picking one candidate, but the moment they leave out someone important or skip the proper steps, the whole thing falls apart. It becomes a mess. Daniel's loyalists are essentially saying that if you're going to crown someone as the consensus pick, everyone who matters needs to be in the room when that decision gets made.

What makes this interesting is that Abiodun is the sitting governor, so he has serious power and influence in Ogun State politics. But even with all that, he can't just announce something and expect everyone to fall in line. His endorsement only works if the major candidates and their supporters actually agree to it. Right now, they don't.

The 2027 elections are still a while away, but this kind of tension this early suggests the Ogun East Senate race is going to be messy. You've got multiple camps, wounded egos, and accusations that the process is rigged before voting even happens. This could either push people to sit down and actually hammer out a proper consensus, or it could turn into a proper battle where everyone runs their own race.

For now, the ball is in Abiodun's court. If he wants this consensus thing to actually work, he's going to have to go back to the drawing board and do it right this time.
