In the early hours of Monday, a gas explosion rocked the city of Lagos, leaving four people injured. 

Gas Explosion Injures Four In Lagos  The incident took place at Ijaiye, adjacent to the Apostolic Church in Agege, where a shop storing gas cylinders caught fire, leading to the unfortunate event.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), investigations revealed that the explosion occurred due to gas leakage in one of the cylinders, igniting a fire that quickly engulfed the shop.

Fortunately, the swift response of emergency services prevented the flames from spreading to nearby shops and buildings.

LASEMA confirmed that, although there were no fatalities, four individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries, specifically second-degree burns, as a result of the incident.

The injured victims are currently receiving medical attention from the agency’s prehospital care unit, in collaboration with the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyitolu, the director-general of LASEMA, stated, “The victims have been promptly transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for further treatment.”

The agency further disclosed that the combined efforts of LASEMA’s Lagos Response Team (LRT), and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, successfully extinguished the inferno. Following the containment of the fire, a comprehensive post-incident assessment was conducted by LASEMA’s LRT in collaboration with the Lagos State Government Fire Department (LASG Fire).

As a precautionary measure, the affected shop has been cordoned off to prevent any potential secondary incidents. LASEMA remains vigilant and continues to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety and well-being of residents in the area.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining proper safety protocols when handling gas cylinders. Authorities urge citizens to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent similar incidents in the future.
