Despite a 2-0 victory over Leeds on Sunday, United is five points behind the league leaders and have played two more games than their competitors.
Manager Erik ten Hag made changes to his defense at Elland Road, resting Raphael Varane and allowing Luke Shaw to play center-back in preparation for Thursday’s trip to Barcelona.
Neville views this as a sign that ten Hag understands the title is out of reach, as he would not have rotated his squad if he believed they could win the Premier League.
Neville expressed his thoughts on Sky Sports, stating that ten Hag prioritized the Barcelona game over the Premier League match against Leeds. He also noted that United’s participation in multiple cup competitions will put too much strain on the team.
However, Neville also acknowledged that if United remains in the race come March and April, they will have a significant opportunity with seven or eight games left in the season. They just need to hang in and hope that Arsenal and Manchester City slip up.
