Southampton goalie Fraser Forster is set to join Tottenham in a few days’ time and the deal is expected to be without hitches and should be concluded before Thursday as the Lilywhites prepare for pre-season. Forster is characterized as a homegrown goalkeeper who is very familiar with the English game and this will be an added advantage for the 34-year-old.

The 6’7” big man has been the centre of discussion at Tottenham in the last few weeks as the club are ready to sell Pierluigi Gollini who has lamented about the lack of minutes he has faced at the club. Gollini joined from the Serie A with Atalanta and has struggled to unseat Hugo Lloris from his usual starting position.

Forster’s role is expected to be a backup role to Lloris in case of injury, suspension, or any other reasons for being absent. The club has sent scouts to watch the former England international on a great many occasions this season.  Forster had agreed to personal terms with Spurs last week and the board were delighted to reach an agreement with the Englishman.

There will be an insignificant increase in Forster’s salary as the goalie currently earns £70,000 weekly at Southampton. His arrival at the capital has been met with many surprises as Antonio Conte decided to sign a homegrown player. Fraser Forster has played at Celtic in Scotland for two years(2012-2014) and he is well versed in the spectrum of English football, having played a series of seasons in the Premier League as Soton’s first choice before the arrival of Alex McCarthy.

Tottenham are also set to complete the signings of their players on loan: Dejan Kulusevski and Cristian Romero. Both players signed from the Serie A and have settled in nicely at Spurs, enjoying a stable condition under the tutelage of Antonio Conte who has been widely appreciated by the Tottenham faithful. The club is going to make a full signing of both men for around £70m combined, with Kulusevski coming as the cheaper option.

Harry Winks may not remain at the club for long and it is possible that a summer exit will be on the cards in a few weeks’ time. Record signing Tanguy Ndombele is currently not in the plans of Antonio Conte and it is likely he will leave on a permanent basis. The 25-year-old spent the second half of the 2021/2022 season on loan back at Lyon, where he was signed for £54m, a Tottenham record signing in the summer of 2019.
