Former Kano Governor Ganduje Breaks Silence on Inauguration Absence, Highlights Safety Worries

Former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has provided an explanation for his absence at the inauguration ceremony of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, which took place yesterday (Monday). Ganduje revealed his concerns regarding potential violence between their respective supporters as the reason behind his nonattendance.

In an exclusive interview with BBC Hausa on Tuesday, Ganduje emphasized that he holds no grudges against the new government in the state. He dismissed the absence as mere hype, asserting that he maintains a healthy relationship with the newly formed administration.

“The process of handing over can be divided into two aspects,” Ganduje elucidated. “The first aspect is the transition of power, which involves the transfer of documents and information regarding the government’s operations. This includes completed projects, ongoing projects, and advice for the incoming government.”

“The second aspect is the inauguration. If the outgoing and incoming governments belong to different political parties, attending the inauguration is not always necessary due to the risk of violence between supporters,” Ganduje explained further.

When asked about his attendance at the inauguration of Bola Tinubu, Ganduje dismissed any speculation of seeking an appointment. However, he expressed his optimism about Tinubu’s presidency and assured his support. Ganduje stated, “I am not here for any appointments, but if I am appointed, I will not decline. We are hopeful for Tinubu’s presidency. Our prayers are with him, and we will continue to support him because he was elected based on his commendable track record.”

Ganduje’s absence at the inauguration ceremony of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has sparked discussions among political commentators, with some interpreting it as a reflection of the underlying tensions between the two political parties. However, Ganduje’s explanation sheds light on his concerns about potential clashes between supporters and emphasizes his commitment to a peaceful transition of power.

As the new government assumes its responsibilities in Kano State, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his team are expected to focus on the challenges ahead while ensuring a smooth governance process for the benefit of the people of the state.
