On February 25, two former candidates, Dr. Ade Dosunmu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Chief Adesunbo Onitiri of the Labour Party, endorsed Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for re-election, citing his achievements over the past four years.
The politicians, along with thousands of their supporters, joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledged to work for the party in the Governorship and House of Assembly elections held on March 18, 2023.
During a meeting with Governor Sanwo-Olu and APC leaders at the Lagos House, Marina, Dosunmu and Onitiri declared their intentions to work for the APC’s success in the upcoming elections. The politicians had seen what the Governor had achieved in the last four years and decided to align themselves with his government.
Dosunmu, who defected to the APC with members of the Lagos State PDP as well as House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates of the party, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu’s exceptional dynamism, his ability to listen, and his crisis management skills. He also commended the governor’s leadership style, highlighting his achievements in infrastructure development, youth empowerment, education, health, direct foreign investment, and transportation.
Onitiri, the Chairman of the Elders Committee of the Labour Party, while assuring Governor Sanwo-Olu of support, said he was the most competent and most qualified among all the gubernatorial candidates. He endorsed the governor for a second term, citing his proven track record and commitment to the welfare of Lagos State residents.
In addition to Dosunmu and Onitiri, Governor Sanwo-Olu received chairmen of 13 political parties who are members of the Conference of Political Parties (CPP) and members of the Eyo Alakete Pupa Ikolaba Ekun, led by Prince Uthman Sodipe-Dosunmu, who all pledged their support towards the re-election bid of the governor. The governor thanked the defectors and assured them that the APC would accommodate them and that he would not disappoint them for supporting his re-election.
