In the latest FIFA ranking released on Thursday, Nigeria’s Super Eagles dropped five places to 40th in the world and 6th in Africa. The team’s current points stand at 1480.8, down from the 1494.32 points they had in the last ranking, reflecting a decline of over 13 points. As a result, Nigeria is now behind Russia, a team that has been inactive for a while. The Super Eagles’ form has not been impressive recently, having only won one of their last five games.

On the other hand, the Central African Republic was the most significant mover, climbing ten places in the rankings after successive wins. The country’s success has put them in a favorable position to qualify for their first-ever African Cup of Nations appearance.

Argentina has climbed to the top of the rankings, ending Brazil’s reign at the top. Argentina now has 1840.93 points, while Brazil has 1834.21 points, and France follows closely behind with 1838.45 points. Belgium and England complete the top five ranks with 1792.53 and 1792.43 points, respectively.

Argentina’s rise to the top of the rankings can be attributed to their recent friendly wins over Panama and Curacao. France also made significant progress in the rankings, moving past Brazil after winning against the Netherlands and Republic of Ireland in the UEFA EURO qualifiers.

It’s worth noting that the FIFA ranking system considers various factors, such as the strength of the opposition, the importance of matches, and the performance of each team over the last four years. Therefore, the rankings can be volatile and subject to change after every international break and major tournament.
