The Federal High Court of Nigeria has revealed its plans for the upcoming annual vacation, which is scheduled to commence on July 24, according to a statement signed by Dr. Catherine Christopher, the Assistant Director of Information for the court. However, in order to ensure the continuity of judicial proceedings, six judges will be stationed to handle cases that may arise during this period. These vacation judges will be assigned to courts in Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt.
The official statement read, “In accordance with Order 46, Rule 4 (d) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2019, Honorable Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, announces the 2023 Annual Vacation and the Roster for Vacation Judges.”
The vacation period will extend from Monday, July 24, 2023, to Friday, September 15, 2023. The Federal High Court will resume its regular sittings on Monday, September 18, 2023. This break allows the honorable judges to take a well-deserved rest and prepare for the challenges of the upcoming legal year.
During this vacation, litigants will have the freedom to approach only the functional courts listed in the statement, depending on their proximity. These courts include those situated in Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt.
The assigned Vacation Judges for the respective locations are as follows:
- Abuja: Honorable Justice A. R. Mohammed and Honorable Justice O.A. Egwuatu.
- Lagos: Honorable Justice I. N. Oweibo and Honorable Justice A. Aluko.
- Port Harcourt: Honorable Justice A. T. Mohammed and Honorable Justice S.I. Mark.
